High Performance Camp FAQs

  • Our camps are coached by a combination of top senior international players, up and coming junior internationals and some of the best creative coaching talent around. With over 150 coaches from more than 30 countries in the EVO team, EVO Hockey is a melting pot of multi-national coaching ideas, offering a unique perspective for players.

Our camps are creative, innovative and fun. We show young players hockey styles, philosophies and ideas from around the world, inspiring them to learn new skills and think about hockey in different ways. Sport psychology, strength & conditioning, video work and more are used to ensure maximum development benefit and enjoyment for all players.

We are trusted & recognised by the international hockey community. Our camps have been featured by the FIH (hockey's world governing body) and we regularly attract the world's best players to coach. Young players travel from across the UK and abroad to attend, on recommendation from players and coaches.

Our camps are tailored to the players attending. You provide your playing information on registration and we make sure that, whatever your level, the program you are on is optimised for you. In this way we have successfully developed players, from complete beginners to junior internationals.

  • EVO High Performance Camps are designed to accelerate the development of already experienced and talented players. they are for players of a good standard, who want an intensive, performance oriented training environment.

These camps are an incredible opportunity to optimise player performance through harnessing cutting edge technology in player development - individual player tracking and video analysis.

Prior to the camp, players are requested to create accounts for use of our GPS player tracking systems and a Hudl account for video (we guide players how to do this). On arrival players are briefed, issued with kits and GPS tracking systems, and guided to set them up.

The High Performance camp incorporates a number of training blocks over the days -

    • High Performance training blocks - technical training in squads.

    • Tactical blocks - tactical concept development and video analysis of game footage.

    • Competitive Gameplay blocks - with footage captured for analysis.

Post-camp, all players will have access to their GPS tracking data and information on how to use this, via an app and their video clips via Hudl. This data enables them to understand their training intensity, see pitch heatmaps from matchplay and to benchmark themselves against the equivalent standards set by international hockey athletes.

Players returning to future high performance EVO camps will be able to build a bank of this GPS and video performance data over time, to measure developments, record personal bests and measure performance development.

  • For outfield players, gumshields and shinpads are an absolute requirement and no player will be allowed to take part in the camps without these, unless parents sign a consent recognising the risks of doing so.

We would NEVER advise playing hockey without gumshields and shinpads, at any age! Beyond that, clothes suitable for outdoor sport and the weather at the time are advised and astroturf shoes should be worn (not football boots). A hockey stick is, of course, required.

For goalkeepers, full goalkeeper kit must be brought to the event by the player.

  • This camp is specifically designed with Performance level (Performance Centre and above) players in mind.

  • For High Performance camps, these are offered on a whole camp basis and players must commit to the whole camp.

This is because part of the camp experience is to build and develop with your squad over a course of days, competing to win, mirroring an international training camp environment.

We may from time to time be able to accommodate players on individual days only, depending on circumstances, so if you would like to attend but cannot attend every day, please get in touch to enquire before booking.

  • EVO groups the squads based upon the information provided upon registration.

Players should be aware that there is no guarantee as to which squad they will be allocated into, or that they will be able to play in a preferred position.

Part of the high performance aspect is to prepare players to learn how to play with unfamiliar players, as well as in different positions. This is all part of the learning process.

  • Although we cannot offer refunds, we can sometimes offer you a credit for a future date. No-shows cannot be credited after the event. See our Cancellations & Returns policy for more information.

  • This is the UK and we are made of strong stuff! We play on all-weather pitches, so expect the camp to run, rain or shine! Please ensure your children have sufficient clothing for the vagaries of the British weather!

Fear not, however. If the weather gets too bad, most of our venues have some indoor space that we can use for cover if needed.

The only thing that can scupper us is if the pitches are unplayable, because they are frozen. Therefore, for camps in December and February, we operate an Adverse Weather policy, which sets out what will happen in the event of bad conditions, when any decisions will be made, how they will be communicated to you and what will happen to any bookings.

  • Players attending High Performance Camps receive a numbered EVO shirt each time they attend!

If you are attending other events and would like to purchase additional EVO shirts, you can purchase them in our Shop and collect them at your next EVO event.

  • No. Please provide a packed lunch and drinks / refreshment for the day. Our camps will always have access to water taps on-site, for players to re-fill water bottles.
